Ann Arbor Bucket List

In 30 days, I will be officially done. After playing with the idea of dropping out and being convinced not to (Thanks Em!), I've decided to forge on and complete the journey I entered upon in August of 2007. I've started to compile my "Ann Arbor Bucket List," the things I must do before I leave....

1. Taste the wonders of Insomnia Cookies (preferrably sometime after 12 AM with milk outside Markley)
2. Paint the Rock (tentatively set for April 17th)
3. Rick's + Skeepers + LIVE --> All in one night
4. Go kayaking
5. Swim at the IM building - I believe this is where Phelps trained
6. "The Imprint" =)
7. To be continued...

Spoiled Milk

I get weekly deliveries of a half gallon of milk but in the past I would commonly buy a gallon trying to drink it in a 12-day window before the stated date of expiration. Beyond a quick glance or a sniff test, when is it time to chunk the carton?

A simple internet search shows, "If it is more than six days beyond the stated expiration date, you can safely assume that the milk is spoiled (or well on its way to being spoiled). Although milk can remain edible far beyond the expiration date in some instances, this is the earliest stage at which the milk might become unsafe to consume. Other factors that affect the freshness of the milk is the temperature at which it is stored and improper handling, such as drinking directly from the carton (gross!)."

Live. Eat. Drink Milk.

Milk Bath

Due to Spring Break and the influx of assignments, papers and projects upon my return, I've been unable to provide readers with a sufficient update.

Here’s something to sip on though…milk baths. Cleopatra is well known for this luxuriant skin treatment. Milk exfoliates, softens and nourishes the skin. After my CR adventures, I have horrific tan lines (rashguard, bathing suit and neckline), and I wonder if milk could wash away my peeling skin and help soften the tan lines.

En agua o en leche?

I've read "in water or in milk?" will be a common phrase in Central America. I'll be opting for the latter.

Milk and Mucus

Due to an untimely cold I've been a congested mess - coughing fits and no voice. I was always under the impression that drinking milk would make my condition worse but here's another myth dispelled. I visited UHS, and I was given an albuterol inhaler and told to take Robitussin DM. Let's keep our fingers crossed...

Crying over (spilled) milk

My sister easily has half an inch on me, and I think it's due in part to milk. Growing up my parents forced us to drink a glass of milk every night. My sister and I would stare at those glasses hoping that they would topple over, and when they did, which wasn't often enough, we would cry, blaming the other for the soggy mess. I swear my sister used her "older sister powers" to make the milk spill. The Flintstones vitamins incident, on the other hand, well, it's debatable who's the mastermind behind that one.

Milk does a Body Good

In the 7th grade I broke my wrist playing matball. For those who are unfamiliar, it's essentially indoor kickdoor and the mats (bases) sit on the four corners of the gym. I was running from 3rd to 4th base, and I put my hand up against the wall to stop myself (yes, I broke my wrist running into a gym wall). Unfortunately I wasn't smart enough to break my left wrist, so I could be a sloppy writer for the month I had to wear a cast. I recently found the blue cast in my parents' garage when I was back home in August.

Milk doesn't do much for bruises. I was playing volleyball on Thursday against the gym wall (note the track record) at the CCRB, and only a few hours later did I have these bruises.

Let the Games begin

As a nascent blogger, this is my first...I will be discussing a variety of topics as I venture from graduate school back into the professional arena. I have spent the last 17 months in Southeast Michigan, and I'm ready to return to my roots, the Deep South, to begin my career.

Regarding the name of the blog: I love milk although I am lactose intolerant. I rarely start the day without a glass of milk, and this is limited to only one glass due to my body's inability to digest the dairy enzymes. Why don't I drink soy or lactose-free milk? Simple answer:
It's just not the same.
